Please add any suggested items that you feel would be helpful to discuss at our meeting. This could include things that went well that you would like to see happen again or things that may need to be addressed to make things run even smoother next year,
1.) Time Out Substitution - We need to discuss if we are only subbing at the half or if we can sub midway through. (FOLLOW ALL KAAC QUICK RECALL RULES EXCEPT OFFICIALLY SWITCHING OUT PLAYERS ONLY AT HALF. ALL PLAYERS MUST PLAY 1/2 OF THE MATCH/)
2.) I suggest we make a rules/guidelines booklet we can give to each 4th/5th grade teacher and the officials. I don't mind putting this together (JESSICA WILL PUT TOGETHER A BOOKLET AND SEND IT TO PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS).
3.) Do we allow video taping of matches since we use most of the same questions each year? (NO VIDEOS and NO PHONES OUT)
4.) Can we consider double elimination? Do other districts do double elimination? The placements are not always fair at the end due to luck of the draw. (DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS, WE CANNOT ALLOW DOUBLE ELIMINATION.)
5.) If we stick to single elimination, we have lots of extra questions not needed, especially in the 4th Grade competition. We need more practice questions...can we offer these? (EXTRA QUESTIONS WILL BE CONVERTED TO PRACTICE QUESTIONS AND SHARED WITH PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS.)
6) Let's look again at the 4th grade Bat Quiz (maybe 2 or 3 of us) and revisit it. Some of the questions are quite hard, and I believe need to be replaced with questions which mainly let us know if the student has read the book. The difficulty of the questions varies greatly. (WE WILL LOOK AT THIS AT FUTURE IN-SERVICE OR PD DATES IN ADDITION TO ROUND QUESTIONS.)
7) Let's discuss the level of preparation/practice for the Battle. There is a great unevenness among schools. Sarah W. has offered to help coach practices where needed. (MANY SCHOOLS DO DIFFERENT LEVELS OF PREPARATION INCLUDING LITERATURE CIRCLES WITH BOB BOOKS. NO SET WAY TO PARTICIPATE, BUT YOU CANNOT "PRE-SELECT" TEAMS. PREPARATION IS UP TO THE TEACHERS (COACHES).
8) Help Kate & Leigh write questions for their Battle? How can we support them? (WE WILL SUPPORT THEM IF WE CAN. WE WILL SEE WHAT THEY NEED.)
9) Is it feasible to our competition to other districts/schools? (competition facilities/question confidentiality, etc.) OPENING TO SECOND STREET. NOT CONSIDERING PRIVATE AT THIS TIME DUE TO HOW IT MAY IMPACT TIME and the BRACKET. ALSO CONFIDENTIALITY OF QUESTIONS IS A CONCERN AS WELL.)
10) Add some Bookfest Books? MIDDLE SCHOOL IS USING THEM ALL.
11) Decide what to do with retired plaques after this year. Hang in CO? PRESENT TO CENTRAL OFFICE AT A BOARD MEETING.
